- Strawberry Galette
ALL RECIPES BAKING RECIPES CANDY RECIPES COCKTAIL RECIPES COOKING RECIPES Create Account Questions Recipes Video Classes Zoom Classes Strawberry Galette 20 4 Recipe you are creating: Strawberry Galette Delicious Strawberry Galette Recipe: Easy Steps to Bake at Home There's something utterly magical about making a galette. Picture this: a rustic, freeform pastry that’s as charming to look at as it is delicious to eat. Galettes are the ultimate combination of simplicity and elegance, perfect for both novice bakers and seasoned chefs. Galettes are pretty forgiving and super versatile, so don’t stress too much. With a few tricks up your sleeve, you'll be nailing them in no time. What's a Galette? A galette is a free-form, rustic pastry that originated in France. It's like a simpler, more relaxed version of a pie, with a buttery crust folded around a delicious filling. People love galettes because they're easier to make than pies (no fancy crimping required!) and they showcase fresh seasonal fruits beautifully. Why Strawberry Galettes? Strawberries are juicy, vibrant, and in season right now, making them perfect for this recipe. Plus, when baked in a galette, they release their sweet juices and pair wonderfully with the flaky pastry crust. It's a match made in dessert heaven! How They Became Popular Galettes have gained popularity thanks to their rustic charm and versatility. You can fill them with almost any fruit or even savory ingredients like cheese and vegetables. They're forgiving to make and look stunning, whether you're a beginner baker or a seasoned pro. Tips for Making the Perfect Strawberry Galette: Use Fresh Strawberries: Look for ripe, firm strawberries for the best flavor. Chill the Dough: Keep your pastry dough cold to ensure a flaky crust. Fold, Don't Crimp: Galettes are meant to look rustic, so embrace the folds! Recipe Ingredients: 2 cup fresh strawberries, hulled and quartered 2 tbsp melted butter ¼ cup granulated sugar, plus more depending on the sweetness of the berries 1 Recipe Galette Dough 1 Recipe Frangipane 1 Recipe of Whipping Cream Recipe Directions: This easy strawberry galette recipe whips up quickly, is delicious and bakes to perfection in your home oven! Learning how to make a strawberry galette can be a bit tricky, but it’s so worth it when you get it right. Let's dive into this wonderful dessert! Remove the galette dough from the refrigerator let come to room temp for 10 mins. Roll galette dough out in a circle on a piece of parchment and transfer parchment to baking sheet or pizza pan. Spread the frangipane in a thin layer over the dough, leaving a 1-inch border at the outside edge. Arrange strawberry slices in a slightly overlapping ring 1 1⁄2 inches in from the edge of the dough. Working inward, arrange the remaining fruit in tightly overlapping concentric circles, each smaller than the one before, until you reach the center. Rotate the galette while twisting and folding the overhanging dough over onto itself at regular 1-inch intervals, crimping and nudging the folded dough up against the fruit and containing them within a border that resembles a length of rope. Brush the Galette with butter around all the edges. Sprinkle sugar all around the edges of the dough. Throw in oven and bake till golden brown. Take out of oven and then let sit for 15 - 30 mins. Top with some fresh homemade whipping cream and enjoy. Ready to get baking? Watch my full video tutorial below for step-by-step instructions and my secret tips! 🎥 Common Galette Challenges and Tips How do I keep galette dough from cracking when rolling it out? Tip: Let the dough rest and come to room temperature for a bit before rolling. If it starts to crack, patch it up with your fingers and a little water. How do I prevent the bottom of my galette from turning out soggy? Tip: Use a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake on the lower rack. Preheat your baking sheet to help set the crust faster. You can also sprinkle a bit of flour, ground nuts, or breadcrumbs on the dough before adding the filling to absorb excess moisture. How do I prevent the filling from leaking out of my galette? Tip: Don’t overfill your galette and leave enough of a border to fold over the edges. Use a slotted spoon to drain any excess liquid from the filling before placing it on the dough. How do I prevent undercooked or pale crust with my galette? Tip: Brush the crust with an egg wash for a nice golden finish and make sure your oven is fully preheated. If the edges brown too quickly, cover them with foil and continue baking. How do I keep the dough from getting too tough? Handle the dough as little as possible and keep ingredients cold. Use a light touch when mixing and rolling out the dough. What’s the best way to ensure my fruit filling is flavorful? Mix your fruit with sugar, spices, and a bit of lemon juice. Let it sit for a while to macerate and then drain any excess liquid before using. Can I make the dough ahead of time? Absolutely! You can make the dough a day or two in advance. Just wrap it tightly in plastic wrap and store it in the fridge. My galette is burning on the edges but the middle isn’t cooked. What should I do? Cover the edges with aluminum foil to prevent them from burning while the center continues to cook. You Might Also Like: Craving a slice of this Strawberry Galette? Watch how to make it step-by-step!
