Pineapple Boats
Learn how to make a pineapple boat for pineapple fried rice, frozen sorbet, fruit, or tropical desserts. In this video, I'll show you how to safely cut a fresh pineapple, remove the core, and turn it into a serving bowl that adds a great presentation to your meal.
You'll also see how to cut the pineapple into bite-size pieces while leaving the shell strong enough to hold your filling. Don't throw away the extra pineapple. Use it for pineapple fried rice, homemade sorbet, smoothies, cocktails, mocktails, or even a simple pineapple syrup.
This pineapple boat is easy to make with a ripe pineapple and a little knife work. Once you've made one, you'll have a serving dish that's perfect for dinner, dessert, or your next summer gathering.
Recipe Ingredients:
1 ripe pineapple
Recipe Directions:
Wash and dry the pineapple. Leave the stem attached if you're serving pineapple fried rice. If you're making frozen sorbet bowls, remove the stem before freezing.
Place the pineapple on a cutting board and slice it in half lengthwise through the center.
Use a paring knife to cut along both sides of the core. Carefully cut underneath the core at an angle and lift it out.
Cut around the inside edge of the pineapple, leaving about ½ inch of fruit attached to the shell so the bowl stays sturdy.
Slice the pineapple flesh into strips, then cut it into bite-size pieces. Lift the pieces out with a spoon or knife.
Scoop out any remaining pineapple with a spoon. Save it for pineapple fried rice, sorbet, smoothies, cocktails, mocktails, or homemade pineapple syrup.
Fill the pineapple boat with about 1 cup of pineapple fried rice, fresh fruit, or frozen sorbet and serve immediately.
