green beans with bacon

Green beans with bacon were my grandma’s favorite!

Every summer when the green beans were ripe in her garden, my cousins and I got to help with the harvest.

Grandma would pull out her cast iron skillet and fry up a pound of bacon from the local butcher. She added fresh sweet onion and sautéed until the onions caramelized.

The green beans got added to the pot and she simmered it until the beans were nice and tender.
